Welcome to North Korea

So the other night I watched this fascinating documentary: Welcome to North Korea.

I would recommend it to anyone, it's a very interesting look at a country whose citizens are basically cut off from the outside world, and who are fed propaganda and myths by the government on a daily basis.

You can read more about the movie here as well: Off the Kuff.

Really in the video North Korea reminded me of some sort of psychological experiment. Like, what would happen if we cut people off from the rest of the world and bombarded them will lies for fifty years.

It's like the thought experiment: "If you had absolute power what would you do?" for some people it seems the answer is build statues of yourself and force an entire country of people to love you.

I'm on the hunt for more North Korean docs, so if anyone comes across any please let me know.

Leslie Spit

So on Sunday Danielle and I decided to go for a hike/walk along the Leslie spit.

The walk was about 10-15km and took us about 2.5 hours in total. It was great to get out under the sun again, since this was the first weekend where it was really sunny and warm. I did burn my arms slightly but I consider it a nice base for all of my future summer activities.

The spit is pretty interesting, although I'm assuming that it is far more beautiful during the full summer months when the green plants cover much of the concrete and rebar that was used to build the spit. There is also an ugly side and a pretty side, or a side where there are continuing to dump concrete and a side where they have stopped.

Still it is pretty neat that this place exists this close to the city, and it was really cool to see all the people that came out to use it. I'm sure that it's not generally that busy every weekend, but when its 21+ and sunny on a Sunday for the first time that year it really gets everyone outside.

After the hike we took a spin to the Distillery District and picked up some fresh buns, which we then turned into pizza buns when we got home.

It was also Matt's Birthday on Saturday, so happy birthday Matt!

Long Time no Post

Well it's been a long time with no post over here on this blog and I don't have anything to really say about it.

I've been busy alright! With people staying at our place, planning birthdays, watching TV, reading books, programming computers, jogging, working out, these things take time you know!

And with the bizarre addition of facebook to my life I don't know if I have enough time for this blog!

Well that's not true at all, of course I have time for this blog! I just have been a lazy lazy good-for-nothing when it comes to this blog. I will try harder faithful readers I will try harder!

Happy Birthday Danielle!

Well today is the birthday of my fantastic wife Danielle, so I thought that I would rev up the old blog and make a post about it. So here it is: her birthday post.

Now birthday posts are a little bit of a strange beast to me, I like to do them but what do you really say on them?

First you have to say happy birthday! Then you welcome others to wish the birthdayee (Danielle in this case) a happy birthday as well. Maybe you tell a funny story or post a funny photo of the person.

What you generally leave out is how much you love the birthdayee and how happy they make you...but this is my wife so I thought I'd leave it in.
