Random Photos from the Cabin/Cottage

So a few weekends ago Danielle and I, and some other people, went up to this cabin for Natasha's birthday. I left for Winnipeg the following Sunday so I didn't get a chance to mention anything about it.

Well, the weather was great, swimming was fun, the meals were fantastic, and going golfing was a lot of fun, even if it was really early in the morning.

So here are some random photos from the event, some taken by me, others not:

Why cutting your own hair isn't always the best idea

So I cut my own hair, it's pretty easy since I just shave it anyways, but sometimes I feel the need to get a little fancy, you know, add a little taper here cut a bit shorter around the ears, whatever I feel like on the day.

Last night was no exception, I though that it would be a good idea to cut my hair a little shorter around the ears so that I don't have to trim it as often. So after cutting my hair I stuck on the old number one and started to do a little number around my left ear. Once oops later and I had a large area of too-short hair behind my ear.

Not a big deal, I'm skilled with the clippers, time for a little fix-it work.

Half an hour later and I'm left looking like a cross between Billy-Bob Thorton in Sling Blade and Forrest Gump.

Ah well, what can you do?

Fulfilling the desires of my ancestors one by one

Just a quick post this morning to let all of you know that last night I did something that was foretold by my ancestors many many moons ago: I made cabbage rolls. Granted I doubt that my ancestors foretold gołąbki with tofu and a dash of soya sauce, but the experiment is still valid.

The only crappy part about the experience was the baking of the rolls. Seems the our oven might be on the fritz a little bit, as the bottom element did not turn on for the first hour, which meant that the liquid didn't boil, which meant that the brown rice didn't cook.

But after cooking for a few more hours the bottom element began to work, the liquid began to boil, and the little pigeons began to arrive, one by one.

Back in Toronto

So I'm back, after a week in Winnipeg I have returned. A week spent feverishly delusional, or delusionally feverish, whichever way you want to look at it. Well not terribly fevery but just fevery enough to make it so that I was sweating a lot and so that my muscles hurt.

But still it was nice to be back in the Peg and not have to worry too much about doing stuff, it was nice to just get out and see my friends and family.

So that was cool...now back to regular life...

That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day

Here's that great speech from old Shake's Henry V, I ran across it again yesterday and just had to post it. Everytime I read the thing a shiver runs up my spine when I get to the end.

This day is called the feast of Crispian:
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when the day is named,
And rouse him at the name of Crispian.
He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say "To-morrow is Saint Crispian":
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars.
And say "These wounds I had on Crispin's day."
Old men forget: yet all shall be forgot,
But he'll remember with advantages
What feats he did that day: then shall our names.
Familiar in his mouth as household words
Harry the king, Bedford and Exeter,
Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester,
Be in their flowing cups freshly remember'd.
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remember'd;
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition:
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.

No nudes is good nudes...

Hello all, no nudes in this post, sorry Rod and Laura, but there is news. First off I will be heading back to Winnipeg next Monday and then staying until Sunday morning. I'm heading back to town for some work. So there you have it, that's the nudes I'm in Winnipeg from the 19th to the 25th.

In other nudes Danielle and I watched two movies the last two days, they were:
  1. Crash - Very nice ensemble movie, I would recommend this to anyone, a bit difficult to watch in bits if you are squeamish but very good. That Don Cheedle...I'm beginning to like him.
  2. Shultze gets the Blues - Another very good movie, but before you rent this beware! You will only like this movie if you like slow, sweet, German films. And by slow I mean prolonged shots of three men fishing, or one man sitting on a bench where there is no dialog or camera movement. Still when he plays that zydeco...
So there you have it.

Weekends

So it was the weekend recently, not much happened around here, but much could have! On Friday night I went down to the Ye Olde Bloor cinema and 11:20pm to go watch their showing of The Wizard of Oz/Dark side of the Moon. Thinking that this would basically be me and a few holdouts from the 70's watching this in the dark I decided to show up 10 minutes before the movie started.

When I go the the theatre I was greeted by a line up of people waiting to get into the theatre (completed with some dude playing a ukulele and a guy wearing a sparkly wig with Martian ears) and a line up of people waiting to purchase tickets. The crowd seemed pretty rowdy, so I decided not to see the movie that night, thinking it was more of a group outing then a single one.

So it was back home for more video games.

Saturday I went jogging during the early evening with my iPod shuffle. Now jogging with and iPod shuffle is friggen great, you get to listen to music and the thing never skips. That evening Danielle and I went out for dinner at Fressen. Danielle has been wanting to go back for a while so we decided to go out on a date. Dinner and wine were both great. After that it was back to the apt. to watch An American in Paris, which I had rented earlier in the week.

Now I may be a manly man but for some reason I enjoy Gene Kelly musicals, I can't lie, I blame my mother and my sister for my affliction, but that doesn't change the fact, I enjoy them. Danielle actually hadn't seen a Gene Kelly up until that point so the movie was really rented for her.

Next I'll have to rent Singin'in the Rain.

Then Sunday it was a game of Tennis in the later afternoon, followed by some pizza on College St. and home to laze around and read. Which in my case meant get in the bath and read for a bit, and in Danielle's case meant sneaking in and taking pictures of me in said bath. Sigh, sometimes she can be so juvenile.

March of the Penguins

Danielle and I saw March of the Penguins this weekend, and I must say it was a very enjoyable movie. If you like documentaries at all, or shows about animals I would recommend this movie. Heck even if you don't like either of those I would recommend this movie.

One of the nice things about the movie is that it is short, which seems like a negative comment but it's not. The worst thing a movie like this could do is go on for two hours (this one's 83 minutes I believe) so that all you remember is being bored stiff by the end, forgetting all of the great shots and information that make up the beginning.

The best thing about this movie is the subject matter. The emperor penguins and what they do to procreate in one of the harshest climates in the world is fascinating.

So go check out this movie, it's a lot of fun.
