Kids With High IQs Grow Up to Be Vegetarians

Hah, I just came a cross this article and I just had to shoot it up onto the blog:

FRIDAY, Dec. 15 (HealthDay News) -- As a child's IQ rises, his taste for meat in adulthood declines, a new study suggests.

British researchers have found that children's IQ predicts their likelihood of becoming vegetarians as young adults -- lowering their risk for cardiovascular disease in the process. The finding could explain the link between smarts and better health, the investigators say.

"Brighter people tend to have healthier dietary habits," concluded lead author Catharine Gale, a senior research fellow at the MRC Epidemiology Resource Centre of the University of Southampton and Southampton General Hospital.

Recent studies suggest that vegetarianism may be associated with lower cholesterol, reduced risk of obesity and heart disease. This might explain why children with high IQs tend to have a lower risk of heart disease in later life.

I mean, of course I think that this sort of stuff is pretty bunko, and if you read the article you'll see that the title of the article is a tad misleading. This quote cracks me up though: "Brighter people tend to have healthier dietary habits," I couldn't agree more.

Two Great Songs

So for you today I have some links to some great songs (well the videos for the songs on YouTube):

  1. Elvis Costello and The Attractions - (What's so funny 'bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding - Video takes place in Vancouver of all places, from the 1979 album Armed Forces, songs is written by Nick Lowe
  2. The Cure - Pictures of you - From the 1989 album Disintegration, video does not take place in Vancouver, at least as far as I know...but it does have snow and palm trees for what it's worth...
Seriously two great songs, if you aren't bobbing your head and singing along when you listen to these, well I just don't know, listen again and it's sure to happen.

I don't know much but...

Movies like this: Children of Men, always look really good to me. So go check out the trailer and say: "Wow, Mark is right, I like those (post)apocalyptic movies."

Oh yeah, and Rocky Balboa, I mean I don't want to like it, I really don't, but there is just something deep inside me that really wants to see this movie.

"I don't normally do these sorts of things..." He said with a grin.

So yeah, normally I don't, but that's when it's usually by email, if I didn't do this it would be like a virtual slap to Chris' face. So here goes:

Q. You list six weird things about yourself (habits, pet peeves etc, whatever) and then "tag" six other bloggers by leaving them a comment on their blog about how to play.

A.
  1. I count my brush strokes when I brush my teeth, ten on one spot and it's time to move on to the next spot.
  2. I like to call my cat Dodger "Billy" from time to time, depending on his mood.
  3. I have been known to act like Gollum around the house.
  4. People talking with food in their mouths is a pet peeve of mine, even though I probably do it now and again.
  5. I play hide and seek with my cat Strippie and she really likes it.
  6. I have never purchased meat as an adult. Things like buying meat in a super market and taking it home to do whatever with it, I just don't know how it's done. Honestly besides hotdogs as a child, I don't think I've ever actually cooked meat before.
Note: When I say my cat I mean our cat.

So that's that for this whole six things, so I am now going to tag the following: Rod, Laura, Jimmy, Dylan, Desmond, and Adam.

There you are my nerds, carry on.

And so it begins...

Winter, that is, and last night I guess was when it really started, although I guess the whole deal has been brewing for the last few days.

I did get to go jogging yesterday when the temperature was hovering somewhere around -1. It was my first negative temperature jogging experience and it really wasn't half bad, although I noticed that my knees were more sore then usual once I was done...coincidence? I don't know.

So that's that, we have entered a new era, and that era's name is Winter. -3 today (-10 with the wind) with a high of 1.

Octopus escaping through one inch hole

You've always heard about it, octopuses being able to squeeze through a one inch hole, and now you can actually see it in a video.

Now stuff actually happened to me on the weekend, but I just don't feel like typing it out in all of its glory right...well alright not much happened to me this weekend...but some stuff did, I don't know if it's as cool as the octopus thing...but it did happen.

Parisian Panorama

Since I did this for Toronto, I came across a similar photo (albeit cooler) for Paris: Paris By Night

You ever wonder why a word like albeit is still correct? Me too.
