A vegan sunday

So back the the blog. It's been a while I know, but I was in the Peg for the holidays and busy with other things so this blog sort of say dormant, but now it's back with some cooking shots from last Sunday.

If you don't know I like to cook, and by that I mean I enjoy the process of cooking. I like the idea of making things from scratch and I also like making things from scratch. I also like to experiment with food and try making things that I have never made before...these are the things that I like.

I also like to make vegan dishes, I'm not vegan just a vegetarian, but three of my favourite cookbooks happen to be vegan so I end up making a lot of vegan stuff. This Sunday was no different, in that I was cooking vegan, but what was different was my initiation in the world of gluten based mock meats!

I tried two variations of the gluten based mock meats, one used premade gluten flour and the other creating my very own gluten from scratch...the results of this you can see below:

Simple lemon rice pilaf

Ham using the gluten flour

Chicken using gluten from scratch

A nice salad with purple onions and toasted almonds

This all went together with a nice bottle of Casillero del Diablo Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 to make a very enjoyable Sunday dinner. If you were to attempt this I would recommend using the gluten flour rather then creating your own from scratch since it is about 25 times quicker and about 100 times cleaner and 50 times easier. Also cut your gluten thin, it seems to cook better and soak up more of the flavour when you do so.

So that's that really, the Ham was better then the Chicken but I enjoyed both of them and it was a cool experience...I will definately be making more mock meats in the future!

Well that's it, I have to get back to work now, sorry if this is disjointed I was trying to get it up and out there as quickly as possible.
