The Decemberists

So last week, or was it two weeks ago? Ack my blogging has been slipping. Either way Rodney of Kingston took the train into town two Thursdays (Oct 13th) ago to go see The Decemberists at The Pheonix (which is apparently some dance club most of the time).

Now I hadn't actually heard of The Decemberists prior to the show, I'd heard of them, but never actually heard them. I agreed to go to the show cause it seemed like fun and the band has some significant buzz.

We caught the last two songs of the opening band, whose name I forget. They sounded alright, but were far to mellow for my appreciation that evening, had I known their stuff it might have been different.

After a few beers The Decemberists took the stage and put on a very good show. I would describe their music as jangly bedroom-pop (what?). After the show, which featured some instrument trading and some fan participation, we headed back to the apartment and a few drinks with Marge and Fiachra.

The next day Rod let me Rip the CD so that I could actually hear some of their stuff, since then I have been listening to it and Propagandhi almost exclusively. Needless to say I will be purchasing Picaresque the next time I venture into Sonic Boom.

I have really been ignoring my blog - I have been planning a post about us going to see the Decemberists (and other shows I have seen in the last couple of weeks) but i just haven't seemed to been able to sit down to do it. This week/weekend...hopefully.

Anyway, I am glad you are digging the cd.

The opening act was Cass McCombs (a rather strange website featuring their drawings/doodles). You can get a few mp3s from his label or click here to stream a bunch more

Ahh well rod, some of us just love to BLog and others do not...

I'll have to check-out this "Cass McCombs" as they didn't sound bad in any way.

Danke.

Here is QC's Jeph Jacques on Cass McComb's:

"The opening act, Cass McCoombs, was the single worst opening band I have ever seen. Seriously, words cannot describe how lifeless, saccharine, and awful they are. Ugh. It was like a scene from A Mighty Wind only painful because it wasn't meant to be comedy."

Looks like we didn't miss too much.
That is it.
