Why cutting your own hair isn't always the best idea
So I cut my own hair, it's pretty easy since I just shave it anyways, but sometimes I feel the need to get a little fancy, you know, add a little taper here cut a bit shorter around the ears, whatever I feel like on the day.
Last night was no exception, I though that it would be a good idea to cut my hair a little shorter around the ears so that I don't have to trim it as often. So after cutting my hair I stuck on the old number one and started to do a little number around my left ear. Once oops later and I had a large area of too-short hair behind my ear.
Not a big deal, I'm skilled with the clippers, time for a little fix-it work.
Half an hour later and I'm left looking like a cross between Billy-Bob Thorton in Sling Blade and Forrest Gump.
Ah well, what can you do?

Wear a hat? Shave it off completely? Don't let anyone see you for a few weeks?
I must say that this is freaking hilarious - your post and the thought of you running around with a Gump/Slingblade hairdo. I learned that "cutting your own hair is a bad idea even if it looks really easy" thing in highschool when i have myself a bit of a trim. Not tragic but more than a little stupid looking for a while.
Where was Danielle during all of this? I think you need to recognize when you are in trouble and call in the re-enforcements otherwise you will find yourself having uncontrolable urges to say things like "life is like..."

Thanks for the laugh Mark -it made my day. :D
By the way, my vote is for you to shave your entire head... I think the "lower half shaved, top half not shaved" look is a variation on the "business at the front, party at the back" look, but maybe is a little more deep south during the 1950s instead of rural Ontario during hockey season.

Well I'm glad that my missfortune could brighten up both of your days...Seriously though it's not a big deal at all. That's the one nice thing about short hair, that it doesn't take long for it to grow out.
I don't mind looking like the dork that I am for a while anyways.

Rod: Where was Danielle during all of this?
Danielle: Documenting the moment for posterity of course. Who do you think the took the picture? It was actually Fiachra's idea to take the picture after I ran upstairs to tell M & F about Mark's tragic hair cut and self-flagellation. Fiachra also very rightly pointed out that although I may take the comprimising photos of Mark, he is the one who posts them on his blog.
