Sin City

Well I saw Sin City last night, directed by Robert Rodriguez, and I must say that I thought that it was quite a fantastic movie. The way that this movie looks is great, it looks like a graphic novel in the way that it plays with colours and the black-and-white-ness of the movie.

The movie is basically a series of tales that take place in Basin City involving a large cast of characters that sort of overlap from story to story. The movie is extremely violent, but because of the way that the movie is shot the violence feels almost cartoon-like. For example, the movie is shot in black and white, so when (some of) the characters bleed it is in white. So you get shots of characters lying white pools of their own blood, which looks very cool.

Here is a comparison between the original graphic novel and the movie:

And another:

So all in all I think I would give this movie:

One: the movie IS awesome and shame on you for waiting this long to see it.

Two: I also really liked the black and white effects, especially Michael Madsen's part and Benicio Del Toro.

Three: what the hell is that rating system you have? is that a baret? are barets cool again?

Your rating system RULES! Your blogging prowess is definitely on the rise. With witty 3.5 "Marks" and the photo journey I think it is safe to say that you have reached new heights in the blogosphere. Damn you! I have nothing to counter with. Maybe the heat is effecting the blogging centres in my brain.

I think berets are only even remotely cool on a dude if you are french, wearing a stipped shirt, smoking a cigarette while a bicycle with a fresh baguette poking out of the basket in the rear. Even then it isn't so much cool as stereotypically appropriate.
Unless it is a green one, then you are so badass that no one can say you look like a dork, at least to your face.

Jimbo: Yeah I just sorta missed it in the Main theatre, but made a point of seeing it once it got to the Bloor.

Barets may be cool, I'm not really sure, that was something that Danielle's grandmother knitted for me (Danielle aslo has one). The picture is from christmas I just thought it was funny.

Rod:
Hah! I didn't get the Green Baret reference until just now (must be the heat) I just thought that maybe you had a green baret or something...Now I fully get said joke.

And don't worry I'm sure that you will come up with something that will blow the socks off of 3.5 marks.

Hey,
I don't know if you noticed it but your third picture on this post (on Sin City) changed from the picture to a little sign that says "The owner of this page is using images hosted on another person's server" - which is kinda weird and sorta jerky, in a way. My opinion is that if it is online it is pretty much fair game. A credit can be given (I usually download and then re-upload the images just so i am sure they wont get moved around) but wow, that dude went to some lengths.
Just thougth i would bring that to your attention in case you haven't seen it.
