St. Iodasaph

Stumbled accross this the other days, thought it was pretty cool, thought I'd share it: http://www.christiannewage.com/StIodasaph.html.

I mean it's not really a surprise, but still.

This is quite interesting - Catholic Online's Saint's page had nothing to say about Iodasaph but the New Advent Catholic Dictionary gives this story of Barlaam and Josaphat" which recognizes it as a story of the Buddha.

The ease with which the story was translated to a Christian framework reminds me of a story I heard about a Christian missionary who visited a Lama somewhere in the mountains (not to be confused with a Llama in the mountains. heh. I had a funny mental image there). After sharing the stories of Jesus' works and teachings the Lama sat thoughtfully for a while and said "that man is well on his way to enlightenment." I like that story as I think it speaks to the nature of tolerance and understanding that the Buddhist philospohy stands for, in opposition to the ridged dogmas and intolerance that has been associated with some (if not all) of the major religions of the world.
