Quiet Weekend

Danielle's friend Sarah came to visit us for the weekend from Ottawa, so that was pretty cool. I also got a chance to see "Hero", and "Code 46" over the weekend. "Code 46" was a pretty good film, done by the same director that did "24 hour party people" which was pretty good as well.

I wasn't so sure about "Code 46" since it is a science fiction type movie, but in the end it is more love story then science fiction. I'm pretty sure it was written by the same guy that wrote "24 hour paty people" as well, I guess you could call them a team.

Anyways pretty good film, and I have a weak spot for Tim Robbins.

Michael Winterbottom is a fantastic director, so it is no surprise that Code 46 rated a high review -- what is a surprise is that he is quite underrated/under-noticed in North America. Why have I never heard of this movie?
He got quite a bit of praise and press (well deserved) for Wonderland, I really liked The Claim (although Laura didn't - I liked the Mayor of Casterbridge, which the film is based on, she hadn't so that may have coloured things) and Welcome to Sarajevo is a masterpiece. I can't say enough about that movie. I was pretty sure I saw 24hrPP, but after looking at the description on IMDb, I am not so sure.
He also works with Michael Nyman alot, who does the soundtracks which are pretty damn great (my friend Will from Glasgow was a big Winterbottom/Nyman fan and he pointed that out to me).
It looks like Winterbottom's extensive backcatalogue is something that is well worth checking out - starting with Code 46, if, for nothing else, to see the Clash's Mick Jones doing karaoke singing 'Should I Stay or Should I Go' (according to IMDb trivia - is there anything it can't do?)

PS (now that it seems to be working) - how was 'Hero'? I thought it looked pretty cool - literally: visually stunning - but otherwise, as a movie, is it worth a watch?

Well, Hero was alright, stupid blog post didn't even talk about hero. Not the best movie, but as you said visually stunning. I think that it's work a watch if you liked croutching tiger hidden dragon. CTHD was a better movie, but hero is still pretty good.
