Hey-Ho Weekend

Hey Ho, seems that the weekend is fast approaching from the view of a mn sitting at his desk at 1:00pm. Yeah that's right, I'm reading Blindness by Jose Saramago, and it's creeping into my dreams...I dreampt that I was surrounded by a whole bunch of blind people last night but I was the only one that could see.

I really really enjoy the writing style that he uses in the book, I think it really captures the idea that all of these people cannot see, that all of the voices are comming out of nowhere, and you don't really know who's speaking except by what they say.

I'm going white water rafting this weekend...but first I have to drive for 5 hours this evening, ow joy...Quebec here I comeHey Ho, seems that the weekend is fast approaching from the view of a man sitting at his desk at 1:00pm. A post so good you had to write it twice?

Blindness is great. I think everyone who reads it is effected by thinking they are going to go blind or something (I met an archivist at ACA who just finished reading it and they kept thinking that they were going to lose their ability to see at every turn of the page).

Read All the Names - it is superb and chock filled with archives/records related goodness. I suggest, however, that you stay away from "Journey to Portugal" unless you have been to Portugal, plan to go, or just really are fascinated by the country. It is damn dense and really long. It has its moments but I got through only half before returning it to the library and I was reading it for something like two weeks. I may give it another shot in the future but there are too many really good books (by Jose and others) that need to be read first.

Totally stoked about rafting. As I am writing you are barreling down the 401 to meet me and I am pondering how many times I can fall in the water before you all just leave me to be snatched out of the river by the bears and eaten like a salmon. I think four if I am lucky. On the fifth time I am bear-bait.

So I guess I will see you in a bit.

I read Blindness a couple summers ago... I liked it too and find myself referring back to it when people talk about books written in a different style or anyone trapped in a freakin chaotic situation. Really good one tho.
